Soak-n-Wet Wetter trial

Objective

• Evaluate and compare plant responses to wetter rates
• Assess the seed safening effect of wetters in relation to fertiliser burning of the seed.
• Compare fertiliser and wetter application locations at seeding

Background

The trial was sown on the 19th of May in Nyabing, W.A. All treatments were applied at the time of seeding. It was an 86th percentile year for rainfall in Nyabing in 2021 providing wet seasonal conditions and waterlogging effects on crop.

Liberty Link

Objectives

  • Establish replicated plots of commercial and advanced BASF canola varieties with TT, Truflex, LR and LT traits.
  • Assess podguard advantage and efficacy of the four herbicide programs (TT, Truflex, LR and LT).

Background

Efficacy between the herbicide programs was assessed by conducting ARG and wild radish counts of plots treated with the BASF pre-em. The podguard trait advantage was assessed at harvest using seed loss trays.

Maxentis And Proviso

Objective

• To determine the efficacy of Maxentis against industry standards
• Determine the ability of Maxentis at controlling Septoria leaf blotch and Leaf rust

Background

The Oat fungicide trial was sown on the 2nd of June 2021 at the David Grays AgroAdvantage Brookton trial site. The Brookton trial site received 399.6mm of growing season rainfall with lower-than-average temperatures. Due to the cooler weather, low disease pressure was observed across the site. All fungicide applications were applied on the 22nd of September and assessed at 14DAA and 28DAA. At 14DAA, the flag leaf -3 had browned off so the assessment was amended to a green leaf area percentage assessment. By 28DAA, the flag leaf -2 and -3 had fully browned off so only flag and flag -1 were assessed. By the 42-49DAA assessment, the crop had fully browned off, so this assessment was abandoned.

Sabel-X

Objective

  • The objective of this trial was to determine the impact of Sabel-X seed treatment on Canola yield.

Background

The trial was set up by alternating eight plots with Sabel-X and eight plots without Sabel-X over four replications. Four plots of each treatment were harvested to obtain yield results. The crop was desiccated before harvesting on the 13th of December due to prolonged winter rain.

Stoller Fertilizer Placement and Seed Safety

Group 14 (G) Knockdown

Objectives

1. Compare the knock-down efficacy of group 14(G) herbicides when mixed with glyphosate and Gramoxone
2. Compare the efficacy of Voraxor and Terrad’or alone and in a glyphosate tank-mix.

Background

The trial was conducted 5km North-West of York, WA. The site was farmer sown to oats and was at the jointing stage at the time of spray applications. The site was chosen for the heavy wild radish
population, which were at the 6-leaf stage at application. This is later than the optimal spaying time in a knockdown situation, which was decided upon to push the limit of the Group- 14 (G) herbicides. The rates of Glyphosate and Gramoxone 360 were decreased from their normal recommended rates in order to highlight the efficacy of the Group G herbicides.

Revystar Barley

  • Compare the commercial performance of Revystar Fungicide for disease control against competitors
  • Giving growers and industry members an opportunity to assess Revystar in a commercial environment

Background

The Revystar fungicide in barley trial was sown on the 4th of May at the David Grays AgroAdvantage trial site in South Stirling’s, WA. There was 29.6mm of rain fell the night of seeding. The trial fungicide treatments were applied on the 8th of September. Weather data indicates 16mm rain on that day, however the weather was clear while spraying and the rain recorded fell overnight. The site at South Stirling’s was heavily affected by waterlogging, delaying the growth and development of the crop. Total rainfall for May was 115mm while June had 128.8mm. This data was recorded from the GRDC weather station roughly 10km from the trial site. Both net form net blotch and spot form net blotch were identified during the trial.

Conquest Herbicide System

Objective

  • To demonstrate crop safety and efficacy on ARG and Wild Radish when tank mixing post emergent applications of Fighter (prosulfocarb) with Howitzer and combinations of Velocity and Glocker.
  • Comparison to competing products in the industry.

Background

The trial was sown into good moisture and nine days after seeding there was 16.8mm of rainfall recorded which ensured herbicide activation for IBS applications. At 28DAA the ARG burden was 8.3 plants/m2 and wild radish burden was 7.9 plants/m2. Panicle counts were taken pre harvest at 105 DAC, assessing both ARG and wild radish control. All data analysis was conducted using ARM.

Wheat Varieties

Objective

This trial was designed to test two new, coded BASF wheat varieties against the industry standard, Scepter wheat. The trial was sown on the 25th of May 2021 at the David Gray’s AgroAdvantage site in Dumbleyung, Western Australia. It was a 90th decile year for rainfall in the area with GSR of 444mm. This ensured a great year for crop establishment, and growth through to harvest on the 30th of November.
